  OHIO STATE MINI CONVENTION

It is again the time of year for the President of the OSRBA to beg and plead for help to set up and tear down our State Convention Show coming up in May.  In trying to keep the costs down for the show, I would like to see some new faces helping our aging crew who year after year donate the time and effort needed to put on a quality show of this size.  It would be great if we can get a person or two from each of our member clubs.  I look at the Pennsylvania State Convention and see entry fees of $4.00 per rabbit per show and if you want coops you have to pay an additional $3.00 per coop.  With the high price of gas, exhibitors really do not want to see increases in our entry fees.  Please volunteer time to help us keep our costs down as well as the entry fees.  Please contact me or any of our show committee if you can help us this year.

The 2008 OSRBA show has another outstanding lineup with 8 National Shows, 27 State Shows, Regional Shows, and our OSRBA sponsored specialty shows for Saturday May 3.   The all Breed State Convention show will be on Sunday May 4.  We have an outstanding lineup of judges and hope to see you all at our State Convention.  We will have a judges conference on Friday night May 2.  For those with cavies the OSRBA will have a cavy show on Saturday as well as a show Sunday.  Please get with Renee’ Burns for the youth programs Saturday in Columbus.  We now have a new youth director, Lisa Hoffmann, to oversee the youth judging and breed ID teams for the teams heading to ARBA Convention in Kentucky.  Please welcome Lisa to our OSRBA youth activities.

To improve our already excellent show we have made major changes for 2008.   We have changed the headquarter hotel from the Best Western North to the Ramada Plaza for 2008.  The Ramada Plaza used to be called the Midwest Hotel.  It is a very nice hotel located about 1 ½ miles closer to the show room.  The rate is $69.00 plus tax, so make plans to book rooms before the April 11 cut off date for the special OSRBA rate.  The address for the Ramada Plaza is 4900, Sinclair Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229, the phone number is 614-846-0300 and be sure to ask for Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Association’s special rate.  We are increasing awards for our youth programs, sweepstakes, show awards, and the fryer awards for the commercial show.  We are looking into using pine shavings for bedding instead of the straw.

We again need people to get petitions from Marie Waite for offices for the OSRBA.  This year we have the election for the offices of President, Directors of Northeast, Southeast, and two at large directors.  Election ballots will be mailed to all paid up member clubs for voting.  Thanks in advance to those that run.  Please have your clubs send your Hall of Fame nominations to Chuck and Ruth Henderson, head of Hall of Fame selection committee.

See you at the shows,
Claire Howman

Welcome to the 2008 Ohio State Rabbit
Breeders Association State Convention

The Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Association is hosting another
outstanding State Convention and we are inviting you to attend our 2008
show. The Convention will start out Friday evening with the judges conference chaired by Terry Fender.
Saturday is a full day with 9 National breed shows, 16 State or
Regional specialty breed shows, and 13 OSRBA sponsored specialty breed shows for you to enjoy. We will have our U.S. Meat Rabbit Championship
with meat pens sponsored by Hubbard Feed/Show Rite and
single fryers sponsored by ADM Alliance/Pen Pals on Saturday chaired
by Terry Grubb. Saturday is filled as well with our youth programs so get
your youth signed up with chairperson Renee’ Burns.
Please catch our awards presentation Sunday morning to honor our sweepstakes, youth royalty, youth judging and breed ID, scholarship
achievement awards, distinguished service awards, and Hall of Fame
winners. All this is followed by the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Association State Convention all breed show. The OSRBA annual meeting will start 30 minutes after Best in show judging. To make a great show better we have made the following changes that I am sure you will all like. The OSRBA has changed it’s headquarters hotel to the Ramada Plaza, which used to be Midwest Hotel. Please make sure to book your room before April 11 to get the OSRBA special rate. We have increased fryer awards, added youth awards, increased sweepstakes winners, and changed from 4 and 6 class winners to groups similar to ARBA Convention shows. For cooping we will switch to pine shavings and will not have straw available for bedding. You will see another spectacular show this year and make your plans now not to miss out on the 2008 Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Convention and Show.
