Sandy Bennett has been a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association since 1986, serves on the standards committee and chairs the election committee of the Lop Rabbit Club of America; is vice president of the Southern Lop Breeders Association; and is secretary/treasurer of the South Carolina State Rabbit and Cavy Breeders Association, Southern Pride Rabbit and Cavy Club, and Southern Flemish Giant Rabbit Specialty Club. She was show secretary for the clubs listed above and others for a number of years but has cut back on those duties in recent years.

The Bennett family began raising rabbits in Colorado in 1981 beginning with the 4-H program and was fortunate enough to have a leader who introduced ARBA and encouraged showing in ARBA shows. We have raised a number of different breeds and still raise French Lops, one of our original breeds, who are now joined by English, Mini and Velveteen Lops and Flemish Giants.

Sandy joined University Foundations at the University of South Carolina as assistant director in December 1998 transferring from the Management Department of the Moore School of Business which she joined in February 1988.

She attended Newberry College prior to joining the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC in 1961. After living in El Paso, Texas and the Denver, Colorado area, she returned to South Carolina in 1988.

She was a Girl Scout leader for a number of years and a Junior Achievement volunteer.

She is a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, formerly serving as chair of the stewardship committee and secretary of the church council. She is serving her 4th term as Records Director of the Lexington-Saluda Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

She has been married to James W. Bennett since 1961 and their family includes two daughters, two son-in-laws, three granddaughters and one grandson. Besides raising and showing rabbits, she enjoys travelling, reading, gardening, fishing, baking and one day will get back to crocheting and sewing.
